Buckinghamshire, also known as "Bucks" is an area of rural beauty with many small villages and a few larger towns in the south, the largest being the town of Milton Keynes (also a unitary authority including Newport Pagnell and Bletchley) although the County town is Aylesbury, there is a town of Buckingham which was the county town until 1536. Other larger towns include Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, Buckingham, Bletchley, High Wickham, Marlow, Milton Keynes and Newport Pagnell. The highest point is Coombe Hill at 876 feet (267 m) above sea level, south of Aylesbury at Wendover. The southern end of the county is part of the Chalk hills known as the Chilterns. To the north is The Vale of Aylesbury. The name Buckinghamshire or Bucks is Anglo Saxon in origin and the county has existed since 582 but some settlements, like Aylesbury go back 1,500 years and many towns have Celtic names.

Bucks is well served by road transport routes centred mainly on Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Buckingham. The A431 crosses the Chilterns and joins Aylesbury via Amersham to the M40 at Uxbridge. Another access to the M40 exists at Beaconsfield and High Wickham and there is access to the M1 at Newport Pagnell. Whatever your destination in Buckinghamshire, you will find a Bed and Breakfast, guest house, hotel, self catering cottage or camping site to Stay In Buckinghamshire.
